Badger and I have asked legitimate questions which could be asked by the great uninformed and unwashed amongst us seeking guidance..........but we are not thanked for our input. Mousey, who could also be described as given a parrot response, is lauded.

ha legitimate questions ,yeah right ''maybe''
if asked properly I may have answered ,I wonder if either of you have been caught in a bushfire ,as am sure the people who the quote was meant for would have known how and what was meant after all the blue mountains are just that mountains and most of the towns are again just that up the mountain can I ask why some on here always try to take the mickey out of a serious situation
the word at the bottom of badgers post ''smirk'' told me how serious about it the comments were
I haven't been "caught" in a fire situation, but I have strapped on water packs provided by the NSW bush brigade and fought bush fires to save friend's houses in more than one fire season. I am sure that Mr B has his tongue planted firmly in his cheek with his post above, the cheeky bugger! LOL
can I ask why some on here always try to take the mickey out of a serious situation
Cause I am an idiot?
But I give credit where it's due - to the fire fighters all over Oz.
It begs belief that in 2013 people still have to be told to evacuate. Makes me shake my head as much as seeing some dweeb being rescued off the top of their car in a flooded river - two in two days when Gippsland flooded the other month.

I think humour is the Australian way of coping with disaster, while we honour those in the firing line, we make light of it, as a coping mechanism
Rainy, I have meant both the above jokers, and I am a fairly good judge of character, even if I have to say so myself, neither of them struck me as careless people, both would have empathy for those affected.

LIFE IS LIKE A COIN YOU CAN CHOOSE TO SPEND IT ANYWAY YOU WISH BUT YOU CAN ONLY SPEND IT ONCE. MAKE YOUR CHOICES WISELY

lets just say that fires of any type and myself dont go together I still have nightmares of 4 years ago ,we had one road in and one road out ,I wouldnt wish that on anyone and hope I never have to go through it again sorry

Agreed with you Rainy. This experience has really rattled us, it was so very close and the reality is that we only have one road in and out. The rest is surrounded by water. We have made a decision to start seriously looking for a boat... not quite in the market for an ark, but we do have to take care of ourselves and our neighbours in these times. I will quote the Catho Pub publican and his big sign out the front that says:
GOD BLESS THE RFS

Just get out there on the road as often as you can folks

thanks smokey
Deborah, you may find some of your neighbours probably have a boat ,it doesnt have to be a big boat oh I know the feeling well of one road in and one road out
mother nature can be cruel at times I personally think that councils ,parks admins ,governments need to have a good hard look at themselves about regulations and letting people build in heavily timbered areas no one needs thick bush right up to their front doors almost
you should see warrandyte down near melbourne ,if a fire got hold there there would be no stopping it ,thick bush right in town ,an accident waiting to happen while gum trees are lovely ,they are volatile when it comes to fire ,and have no place ina suburban garden EVER

I didn't explain that very well, we only have one road, the same one for going in or out. Some of our neighbours have yachts, that doesn't give me a vote for safely evacuating in a crappy little yacht, and our canoe is just a wee bit small to fit in the crate of photo albums! Don't quite know what sort of boat we will get, but research is being done by HWMBO. Of course there are quite a few people with boats in the hood, but they probably would expect to use them to save themselves and their families. A lot of the local houses are holiday homes, so often nobody there to help.
Fortunately the thick bush is not on the peninsula, but it surrounds the road in. So we are at the mercy of any fire really.
I am starting to see your point about not allowing homes in heavy bushland, but we have a bloody great big power station at the start of our town.

Deborah I knew what you meant as we also only had the one road too and to get out we had to drive towards the fire a towering wall of flame at the time
if the authorities can help it they wont let a power station burn
