We were watching the reports on Sky news this morning. Are you ok MHN? I was concerned that you have moved from one bushfire area and history is repeating itself
There is a large, slow moving bushfire in the Glenmaggie area.
It is travelling in a North East direction.
This fire is expected to impact Dawson, Glenmaggie, Heyfield, Seaton anytime within the next 2 hours. ◾This bushfire is approximately 48000 hectares in size and is being controlled.
What to do: ◾A fire is in the area, it may be close to you; follow your bushfire survival plan. ◾If you plan to leave or do not have a survival plan, leave now. ◾Turn on your vehicle headlights and drive slowly; smoke will make it difficult to see. ◾Conditions are changing, homes can offer safety. ◾If you are away from home; do not return. ◾If time permits, check your neighbours to see if they are monitoring conditions. ◾If you are experiencing any symptoms that may be due to smoke exposure, the Department of Health advises people to seek medical advice or call Nurse on Call on 1300 606 024.
As you know, Deb works at the CFA at Burwood (has for years). She is one of a small team who talk directly to the units after all incidents to take their reports. She has had brigade commanders break down crying while giving her their reports, which can take well over 30 minutes or an hour, in peak times with multiple reports/incidents.
I noted last night that units from Mt Martha (only one of many, but miles from Gippy) were fighting in Gippsland. These are people who may not see their families "for days" now - and they are volunteers - and yes, sadly, though thankfully rarely, they don't come home.
GOD BLESS THEM!!!!!!
AUSSIE, AUSSIE, AUSSIE - CFA CFA CFA!!!!!
(This is not specific to Vic - but thanks to ALL states rural volunteer fire fighters)

Well said Badger ... These people deserve all the help and support we can give them.
They put their lives on the line at a minutes notice and don't ask for anything in return ... Brave people the lot of them.
