Same here I assume, maybe I shouldn't but I do, that the fridge was used in a sealed, to the outside, annex but the flap between the sleeping side and the annex was open, and it was CO poisoning, not a gas leak It may or may not come out I would think if it was a gas leak, there would have been an explosion Tragic in any case

i don't have the redarc one so can't comment on that
b ut the dealer you have shown is also an Adelaide guy, whom I've done business with a few times, his name is Adam and his delivery and communication are fantastic
I ordered and payed for my gel batteries from him as 7pm one night and they arrived here at 3pm the next day I had contacted him about returns shoud one fail and I had an answer within an hour, he was willing to meet at a post office near his place to do an exchange is something went wrong rather than me "posting" the item back

Comparing the 2 fires, about 5 times the area which was burnt in the Samson flat fires over one week, was destroyed in 4 hours in the Pinery fire They just said on the news that the damage bill of the Samson flat was $36 million So far it is $75 million at Pinery

Pete and Smokey, you and ALL, CFS, St john and SES volunteers are heroes and should be thanked every time you go out there to help people, especially those who don't prepare for a fire

Spook freaks when I say this, but we use a small gas heater in the van, but we always have all 4 vent open across the top, and never block off the vents at the bottom of the door or behind the fridge
PS we never use it while sleeping, only in the evening and early morning

All very good advice there rainy, but I can tell you that the best place for the smoke alarm in the caravan.................
is in the bloody drawer whenever we decide to have toast!!!
Yeah I agree with you Gerry, the neighbours always think we are having burnt offerings for meals, the bloody thing is always going off at meal times, yet have a bloody great big camp fire and no alarm, go figure

Dave PM sent
On Friday I was coming back from town with a group of kids on board and I had a truck driver try to take out one of the mirrors on the bus.
He had a big bar around his mirrors and had lined up mine, I realised at the last minute, and was only able to move left a little because there was a car in the turning lane beside me, but it was enough for him to miss the mirror by a bee's di .............. errrr dog's whisker.
apparently it's a new sport amongst cowboys, take out the bus mirrors

It is certainly only a few that are like that, Thankfully most of the drivers we have encountered have been good even to the point that when they are coming towards me they have moved to the left of the road to lessen the wind buffer as we pass
but you're right tha cowboys have to be reported to the police

I think humour is the Australian way of coping with disaster, while we honour those in the firing line, we make light of it, as a coping mechanism
Rainy, I have meant both the above jokers, and I am a fairly good judge of character, even if I have to say so myself, neither of them struck me as careless people, both would have empathy for those affected.

Yes Chris you are one of the good ones, but as in all jobs (except bus drivers of course ) there are the cowboys.
On our last trip up north (2011) I could hear the pilots and truckie talking as we approached, as I went past the pilot I asked "how wide are we mate" all the came over the air was "there's a caravan coming your way Bob" I repeated my question went past the load, which thankfully wasn't tooo big and I had slowed and moved over anyway, and also went past the rear pilot, I then got on and said
"would have been nice to get a response from the pilot, but I guess there are idiots in all jobs"

G'day Chris
this was one of the responses
Thanks Frank for the good article. One point I have noticed with pilot vehicles is that they do use the radio to advise oncoming trucks of width etc. But do not relay the same information to caravaners.
the answer that was given to it
You have great point re notification for the vaner I have a feeling the reason they are not communicating with us vaners is that they are not aware that vaners are taking up the use of radios more and more and this could be due to the fact that when they come up behind a caravan they do not know that the tow vehicle is equipped with UHF a radio and that it is switch on
and mine
I think Geoff, that as MH suggested is that they usually get no response from vanners, so they don't bother and also as yu mentioned they may not be aware that we are listening in to 40 a lot of people sit on 18 or 20 for motohomers, that's why it's good to scan 40
unfortunately there will always be those who do not listen to 40 then get upset that you are not telling "THEM" the majority listen in and know what you the pilot is doing

Bevan, as a heavy vehicle driver I too get those idiots pull out in front of me, not so bad now the kiddies have seat belts to hold them in but many a time I had kids plonk on the floor when a Richard cranium pulled out because he thought I was a big slow heavy vehicle, the nub skulls don't seem to understand that even though we are big and slow up the hills we are still capable of doing 100 in a 100 zone.
Steve, NO ONE will ever bring in yearly testing, it would not be practical to test everyone on a yearly basis, BUT what they could do, they still wont, here in SA the speed camera operators used to put out a sign "SPEED CAMERAS SAVE LIVES" this was of course about 200m AFTER you had been pinged, I wrote a letter to the then minister for transport suggesting that if the government was serious about those signs, then they should use all the revenue for driver education, and bring in a defensive drivers course at high school level, before the kids got out on the road and also repeat offenders would have to attend hat course at their own cost. I sent a copy of the letter to the local rag and also the RAA magazine, the local rag printed it, and that was all the action I got it was not long after and I'm sure coincidental that the government decided that those signs would no longer be used .
